Strategy Mapping: Leadership Tip of the Day for Busy Leaders
Does strategy really matter to the individual manager, or is it only a consideration for the leadership group of the organization? This week we talk about how to translate strategic drivers into more practical activities using Strategy Maps.
Monday’s Tip (Strategy Mapping): Keep it simple. Strategy Mapping is brilliant in its simplicity. Don’t remove this advantage by taking a simple idea and making it complex.
Tuesday’s Tip (Strategy Mapping): Involve your team in the development of a strategy map. Part of the purpose of a Strategy Map is connect employees’ activities to higher level business drivers. It is much easier to make this connection if you include people in the development of the strategy map.
Wednesday’s Tip (Strategy Mapping): Be very clear on the larger organizational goals. If you’re unclear on the higher level business drivers, then your strategy map will be confused and useless.
Thursday’s Tip (Strategy Mapping): Adjust the standard categories to meet your needs. Kaplan and Norton have suggested four categories as a starting point. You should adjust them as your situation warrants.
Friday’s Tip (Strategy Mapping): Put Your Strategy Map Front & Center. Represent your strategy map visually, and put it where everyone can see it. It is important to constantly reinforce how their work connect to the bigger picture.
Three Things to Remember About Strategy Mapping:
1. Keep it simple. Strategy mapping works because it is conceptually easy. Don’t make it more difficult than it has to be.
2. Put your strategy map front and. Once you have created your strategy map, put it where everyone can see it, and understand how their work has an impact on the larger company goals.
3. Change the standard categories to your needs. Kaplan and Norton suggest four perspectives, and these are excellent starting points for the development of your strategy map. Don’t feel bound by those categories, however.

Hackers threaten to release Symantec source code tomorrow (cnet)
Code is thought to have been stolen from servers run by the Indian military,
but the company says the code is from 2006 and is no threat to users of the
current antivirus product. Hackers thought to have stolen source code from the
Symantec’s extended network have threatened to release the source code for
Norton Antivirus tomorrow, but the company says such a release poses no
threat. The hackers, who call themselves “Yama Tough” and employ the
“Anonymous” mask in its Twitter avatar, said in a tweet Saturday it would
release the 1.7GB source code on Tuesday, along with the message “the rest
will follow…”Several reports surfaced earlier this month that hackers had
managed to access the source code for certain Symantec products. Symantec
identified the products as Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11.0 and
Symantec Antivirus 10.2 but said the attack did not affect any current Norton
consumer products. The hackers said they found the code after breaking into
servers run by Indian military intelligence. The code was apparently left on
there by mistake after Indian authorities inspected the sourced code to ensure
it was secure, which is where the hackers found the code. The group said in …
